CHAPTER THIRTY
Electric Generators, CBs, Ham Radios, Cellular Telephones, Global Tracking, Satellite Communication Systems, & Computers

What I would really like to see happen is the development and eventual deployment of a comprehensive Hare Krishna disaster relief response.

One area affected by disasters is man’s ability to communicate. So what I have in mind is a complete mobile communications center that we could deploy with the rest of our overall response team.

If we could bring this "command post" onto the "disaster stage," this would have profound implications. Not only would this give our entire team the means to stay in touch with each other at all times, we could also provide real-time reports back to ISKCON Communications at the Potomac temple. There are many ways that Anuttama prabhu could use this information.

Equally important, by having this mobile communications center deployed, Krishna Disaster Relief would become a very important "player" amongst all the other relief agencies taking part in the rescue efforts. A disaster means an emergency. Being able to provide emergency communications during a disaster is something that we should provide right along with the rest of our response.

And here, again, is a highly interesting service that ISKCON can encourage the youths of the world to participate in. Similar to our search and rescue team, here is a branch of Krishna Disaster Relief that would have its own equipment and training. I’m just barely touching the surface here. Unfortunately, I am not personally up to speed on all that modern technology would let us do. But it wouldn’t surprise me if we couldn’t even provide the major news networks with live video of unfolding events.

This mobile communications center—or command post—would become the core of Krishna Disaster Relief’s response—not only providing emergency communication abilities for our own people, but providing assistance to other groups, as well. For instance, the American Red Cross might ask us to relay messages for them.
