"Actually, not to keep the secret of a king is perilous and a terrible risk,
but to be silent about the works of God is a great loss for the soul."

Abandoned is a religious thriller.  Read for yourself how one man’s incredible ordeal allows the author to weave a tale that in the end manages to connect every one of facts below, and more. Certainly nobody could accomplish that without drawing an explosive conclusion.

Fact: Around 1625 A.D. two Spanish padres approached a vista overlooking present day San Angelo, Texas.  In the valley below they saw approximately 6000 American Indians walking behind a 6 foot cross decorated with flower garlands.  Some of the Indians had rosary beads. According to Spanish records none of their priests had ever been there.

Fact:  More than 8500 miles from San Angelo, a Muslim Saint is tied to a tree where his executioners are ordered to whip him to death. They are unable to kill him.

Fact:  Inside a cloistered convent located over 5000 miles from San Angelo, a nun is observed floating while in a deep trance.

Fact:  In Santa Fe, New Mexico there is a spiral staircase that experts say was impossible to build, yet it stands today for all to see.

Fact:  5000 years ago within a secluded forest a famous dance took place.

Fact:  About 2000 years ago Jesus Christ was crucified.

Fact: In 1767, as dozens watched in complete silence, the seal on a box was broken to examine its contents.  Inside were letters revealing an oath of secrecy meant to hide a certain event that happened inside their local church 100 years earlier.

Fact: In 1885 a young girl was observed in a cave by hundreds of people as she dug on her hands and knees, her fingers searching desperately for a few drops of water. A few moments later she pulled up a bunch of weeds and started to eat them; her face smeared with mud.  Today this girl is venerated as one of the greatest Catholic Saint of all time.

Fact:  A former British soldier had been so grievously wounded during WWI that he was waiting to be placed in a hospital for the incurable. He couldn’t stand or walk, one of his arms was shriveled, he had a hole in his skull and other open wounds that would not heal.  He had epileptic seizures daily.   A few months later he ran barefoot down a gravel road to escape from two men chasing him.  They couldn’t catch him.

Fact:  500 years ago the most famous man in India mistakes a vast ocean for a holy river and dives into it.  His disciples are frantic. Miles away, the next morning, a local fisherman snags something in his net.  Covered in salt, seaweed and sand the object appears to be a 12-foot long human being.

Fact:  You can read every word of Abandoned without paying a dime.

Chapter 1: The Saga Marches On

Three days and two nights passed quickly as Maria and her father became reunited.  All the mysteries surrounding what had happened over the years became abundantly clear.  Of course, the news about Elini passing away from breast cancer was an especially difficult thing to tell her father.  That was the second time she saw tears fall from her father’s eyes.

Slowly but surely, not only were all of Maria’s questions answered, but equally profound, Major Sutton now understood all that had happened as wellNick having buried the letter over 20 years ago and how Rama had followed Nick and was able to warn him about the soldiers looking for him.

Other than that one attempt to escape, Nick never tried to leave again and besides, as he told everyone, Surya was already advanced in years when he first met him. And then, over the following months as Surya’s old age left him increasingly fragile, the thought of leaving him in some wild attempt to once again reach America became unthinkable.

Their relationship was like a loving son taking care of his aging father—but it was much more than that. In Nick’s eyes, Surya was nothing less than a saint of the highest order. Rather than dwelling on another foolish attempt to escape, it became apparent to Nick that Providence had other plans for his life and to not accept that fate felt like he was rejecting God’s love and purpose.

When Nick explained all this to Maria she could easily sense the unmistakable sincerity in her father’s charactersomething that warmed her heart.  Whatever had happened to her father, one thing was certain in her mind: he had become profoundly close to God.  Blake, Sutton and Judy were all aware of the same thing.  Nick had become something far more than any of them could have guessed in a million years.  They were now about to learn other things—impossible things—things that would touch each one of them to their very core.

As evening approached on the third day, out of respect for Rama, Nickolas wanted to hear more about his friend’s trip to India.  All the monks did. That conversation had been suddenly interrupted with the arrival of Maria.
